Upcoming RC Events

As a bit of last notice news, there are a couple of RC events that are going to be the first weekend in May. Top Gun The US, and probably world’s, premier scale model competition happens right in Florida’s backyard. If you have a chance to get over to Lakeland, FL April 29th through May 3rd for Top Gun. You’ll get to see awesome warbirds and jets take to the skies in an attempt to earn the title Mr. Top Gun. It is 5 days of seriously awesome scale competition. The chance to see everything from a Moki 400cc 5-cylinder powered … Continue reading

JetPack Troubles

Oh no! You’re WordPress site went down! Are you getting a fatal error with a path that has JetPack in it? When you try to go to log into the admin portion of your site you’ll probably also see something like this: Fatal error: Cannot find a library with slug admin-pages/class.jetpack-landing-page. in … Don’t freak out just yet. I had this same issue and for me the fix was very simple. First Step: FTP Find your FTP credentials for your site. This shouldn’t be too difficult. If you did the install for WordPress not using an automated tool from your hosting … Continue reading

My First ALES Event

Gracia Maxi 3.5e launch

Altitude Limited Electronic Soaring – ALES It’s not a beer fest. Although, it wouldn’t have hurt to have had a few brewskies on hand! Back in March I took the opportunity to participate in the Florida Soaring Society’s opener. The event was hosted by the Orlando Buzzards at their field in Christmas, Florida. For the new year I bought myself two new models. I had been saving up for their purchase for most of 2014. One of them was a very nice Gracia Maxi 3.5e from TopModelCZ. I ordered it from Esprit Model located on the Florida Spacecoast. I cannot … Continue reading

DLG – Discus Launch Gliders

Over the past few months I have been getting into a new segment of the RC model airplane hobby. In February I attended a discus launch glider competition. It was an exciting event! Discus launched gliding, DLG as it is often abbreviated, is a special type of glider which is hand launched by the pilot in the same way that a discus thrower launches a discus. These gliders have a peg attached to the wing where the pilot places two fingers. The pilot then typically does a spin and launches the glider from a side arm toss. Once the glider … Continue reading

Configuring NodeJS in Windows for Success

Here’s how configuring NodeJS a bit different from its installed settings can create a little less of a headache in Windows. If you’re not familiar, NodeJS is an awesome environment for developing apps using JavaScript run with Chromium’s V8 engine. I’ve been using Node on my Ubuntu a little bit of time. Recently I’ve been working on projects at my work while in Windows. It didn’t take long after installing some packages that I ran into most developers common annoyance with developing in a Windows environment, path length limitations. It’s 2015 and users are still dealing with a 260 character limit … Continue reading

Watch Manufacturers Sending Take Down Notices to FaceRepo

If you read my last post about FaceRepo and Facer I mentioned that I made some watch faces that were clones of Breitling watches. FaceRepo was also a great place to find Rolex, Omega, and other watch faces. Like all good things the sharing of those faces has come to an end. The hosting of copyrighted content has caused many sites to come under fire from content creators. Luckily a provision in the DMCA, the safe harbor clause, allows those sites to give resolution to content creators by taking down user uploaded content that violates copyright rules without the fear of those same creators … Continue reading

Facer and FaceRepo.com

Since I have this awesome Moto360 I decided that it had to have equally awesome faces. If you have an Android Wear watch then you need to go out and get Facer. It is well worth the money. Once you download Facer you’ll notice that it has its own section for watch faces that you can download. It’s a pretty sparse list. Head over to facerepo.com for a ton of watch faces. They’re even sorted by round and square. If you’re into fancy watches that cost 1000’s of dollars then you’ll want to check out the two faces that I submitted. This is … Continue reading

Moto360 Thoughts

I’ve had my Motorola Moto360 watch with Android Wear for a little under a week now. It may seem like it’s a little soon to write up a review, but this device has fit so nicely into my daily routine that I think I can make several comments on it now. Hardware The look of the watch is what really drew me to it. A round screen is just so intriguing! The Moto360 looks like a watch. There comes a certain expectation of wearing something on one’s wrist. The Moto360 fits into the fashionable and functional areas perfectly. Overall, the display … Continue reading

My First Android App Published

PowerUp 3.0 is out and is awesome! The official app can only control one PowerUp module at a time. While this isn’t bad nor does it detract from the use of the PowerUp 3.0, I really wanted to be able to fly an aircraft that had more than one module attached. The source was made available GitHub! I forked it! I added in the ability to bind two modules. One module can be bound as “left” and setup on the left side of the aircraft. Another module can be bound as “right” and set on the right side of the … Continue reading

PowerUp 3.0 Kickstarter? Kickstarted!

A few months ago I participated in my first kickstarter project. When I saw PowerUp 3.0 – Smartphone Controlled Airplane I knew I HAD to get in on the ground floor. Today I got my backer reward! I was actually really surprised by how well it was packed. I’ve never encountered this type of bubble wrap. I hope more companies move to this type as it appears to provide very good protection without adding very much bulk.   The reward level that I pledged: PERFECT PACKAGE — Fly your PowerUp 3.0 airplane non-stop. Charge one while you fly the other. Includes 1 … Continue reading
